Wanting to adopt the best international practice, we began working on the project by adopting a Conservation Plan Approach as prescribed by ICOMOS Burra Charter, James Kerr and English Heritage. The first step of the conservation plan was preparing detailed measured drawings of the historic building. We had originally been commissioned to redo the interiors of the ground floor, but since understanding of the entire site was critical to the project, we spent about 3 months to produce these.
The next step was to understand the evolution and significance of the site and develop detailed condition mapping drawings for the haveli pinpointing the issues that affected the building.
Based on the understanding of the significance of the building, the client requirements we developed a concept for the development of the site.
And then wrote up a comprehensive conservation management plan for the haveli
A 1:100 scale model of the haveli was prepared by a professional model maker
Based on the discussions with the owners we developed the drawings for tendering and execution of the works including demolition and stripping out, flooring patterns, wood work drawings and interior design concepts for each room.
As work began on site, we began documenting the existing construction systems etc
Wonderful ... It is a labour of love..
